UK Supplement Trends — July 2026: the surge

Part of The Formulation Index, Supplement Factory’s monthly read on what UK brands are actually briefing us to make.

July delivered the strongest broad surge of 2026. Almost every leading active rose together, and Magnesium reached 58% of all quotes, its highest share of the year. Zinc climbed to 55%, Vitamin C to 55% and Vitamin B6 to 54%, a coordinated, confident rise across the whole base. When the market moves up like this, in unison and with conviction, it reflects a busy, optimistic briefing season.

Ingredient in focus: Magnesium

Magnesium’s climb to 58% was the exclamation mark on its year. No other active comes close to its consistency: through every seasonal swing, it has held or reclaimed the top spot, and in July it reached its peak. That dominance is a genuine market fact, not a fashion. It means that for most UK brands the question is not whether to include Magnesium but how to make their use of it distinctive, through form, dose, pairing and claim. In a board where Magnesium appears in nearly three in five formulations, differentiation is everything.

What else moved

The functional layer rose with the base rather than instead of it: Taurine reached 22%, L-Theanine 18% and Creatine 16%. It was a rare month where structural and functional demand climbed together, a sign of a market briefing widely across both everyday and specialist products. Mid-summer is also when many autumn and winter products are briefed, which adds to the breadth.

What it means for brands

July’s surge is a confidence signal. A broad, unison rise means brands are investing across the board, and a busy market is a good one to enter with a well-differentiated product. But the surge also sets a high bar: with the base at its peak, the way to stand out is not to add another vitamin but to bring a sharper functional angle or a better-executed version of a familiar active. When everyone is briefing, execution is the edge.

After the peak, the only way was down, and August brought a telling cool-down.
